Ombre Chevron Dresses
I bought this beautiful fabric at Joann’s last summer when I was on maternity leave and Audrey and I went shopping for fabric about 5 times in one week! I used it to make these adorable circle top dresses for the girls. Before Audrey was born I swore I would never dress the girls in the same outfit, and here I go again. The fabric was just so pretty I wanted them both to have a dress made from it!
The pattern IÂ used was the Circle Top Pattern which is available for purchase on Etsy. It can be made as a top or you can extend the length to make a dress. It was a very easy to follow pattern and the dresses sewed up quickly. The construction of the bottom portion of the dress was very similar to a pillow case dress.
I love that you can use a contrasting fabric for the circle top, and I was lucky enough to find polka dot fabric in the same shade as the chevron. I made my own bias tape for the arm holes using this tutorial with the same fabric I used on the top.
I should warn you that the pattern runs VERY small. So small in fact that I could barely get it over Audrey’s head. So I’d recommend enlarging it by at least one size. The body of dress itself is also a bit on the narrow side. Next time I make it I think I’ll taper it out into more of an A-line shape.
This was the first time I’ve done buttonholes. I don’t know why I avoided doing buttonholes for so long because it was so easy! You just determine the placement of the buttonhole and the machine does all the work for you. So give it a try if you haven’t tried this sewing technique yet! It’s the only way to learn!
Thanks for reading!
