Valentine’s Day Collage

Valentine’s Day is coming up! This is a cute personalized Valentine’s Day craft I did with Sophie a couple years ago when she was not quite 2 years old. I didn’t have a blog back then so thought it would be fun to share now because it’s perfect for little ones who are not yet able to do many arts and crafts projects independently.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • construction paper
  • white watercolor paper
  • finger paint
  • washable paint
  • foam brush
  • scissors
  • glue stick

Start by cutting out a red heart from the construction paper large enough for your child’s feet. Paint your child’s feet with white paint and stamp each foot onto the heart in a V-shape with the heels touching. After it’s dry, glue onto the middle of the collage.

Next let your child go wild with finger paint! It’s hard to find pink finger paint so I mixed white washable paint with the red finger paint to make pink. After their masterpiece dries, cut out hearts and glue onto the rest of the collage.

We had a ton of hearts….way more than were needed for this project. So I found another use for them… I attended a bridal shower the following week, wrapped the gift in white paper and decorated the package with the rest of the hearts. I also used one as a gift tag. It was definitely a uniquely wrapped gift that got a lot of compliments.  Don’t have white paper? Just use regular wrapping paper turned the wrong way.

Finally, print off a Happy Valentine’s Day message and your child’s name and date in a pretty font, cut out and paste onto your collage. What are you making this year for Valentine’s Day?
