Handmade Little Mermaid Costumes
Happy Halloween from Ariel, Flounder, Prince Eric and Ursula! We celebrated this year with handmade Little Mermaid Costumes!
Yes, once again this year I have been working my tail off on handmade Halloween costumes. Why can’t I just got to the store and buy a costume like a normal person? I am exhausted. Just exhausted. I swear I will not do this next year….but my sister has already said, “Liar Liar pants on fire!” Did I really already catch myself saying “Wouldn’t the girls be cute as _____ next year?” No, no I just couldn’t have said that. But all the hard work was worth it because our handmade Little Mermaid costumes turned out fabulous!
Sophie was the prettiest little Ariel EVER!
And Audrey as Founder….oh my goodness! CUTENESS!!!
I have to give Robbie credit… He had to make most of the Prince Eric costume himself because I was so overwhelmed with the other costumes. Yes, really! I swear this man can do anything.
I got to be the the villain! URSULA!!!!!!
I didn’t have pattern for any of this, which meant a lot of trial and error. I had to regroup and start over many times, but I couldn’t be happier with the finished products! Although if I could do it over I would make Ursula’s tentacles bigger… I think the tentacles were a little wimpy.
The Ariel costume and Flounder costume were entirely handmade. The base of Ursula’s costume a recycled bridesmaid dress from my sister’s wedding, but I created the tentacles and tulle skirt overlay. Prince Eric’s coat was a major alteration of a blazer. I will be sharing a costume tutorial next Halloween! I wish I’d been able to post it this year but we literally were scrambling to finish these at the last minute.
You can see some of our past costumes here. Hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween!
UPDATE 11/1/13: We attended a Halloween costume parade at Sophie & Audrey’s preschool and were so excited to find the lost member of our crew — a baby lobster to join us in a photo as Sebastian!
As you can see Ariel wasn’t too happy that we were delaying her arrival at the class party!
