Dollhouse Makeover
Once upon a time there were two little girls who didn’t like to share. So their very generous dad bought both of them identical dollhouses for Christmas, fully stocked with furniture.
Yes, I was one of those girls.
Fast forward 25 years. Now I have a little girl who wants a dollhouse, and my dollhouse was still sitting in my dad’s attic. We dragged it out a few weeks before Christmas, and were surprised to see how much it looks like our own house.
Robbie painted it pale yellow with a black roof and white trim. Quite a transformation, huh?
I couldn’t help but smile when Sophie sat on Santa’s lap and told him she wanted a dollhouse. I knew she was going to be really excited on Christmas morning! Robbie even decorated it for Christmas with little wreaths on the windows and door!
All ready and waiting for her…
Here she is playing with it for the first time.
I had to go back to my dad all these years later and properly thank him for the dollhouse and all the wonderful Christmases he gave us. We always had more toys than we could possibly play with and I don’t think I truly appreciated it until I had kids of my own and saw how much time, money and effort goes into it.
This is not the first time we’ve refinished a treasured toy from my childhood. Check out our play kitchen makeover.
