DIY French Memo Board
Here is the latest addition to my craft room: a DIY French memo board. I plan to hang this near my sewing table to keep photos of the various projects I’m planning on making as inspiration. But it also was put to good use at Audrey’s pink ruffle birthday party to show off the monthly photos I’ve taken of her over the past year.
I bought monthly onesie stickers on Etsy and took a photo of her each month. The French memo board was the perfect way to display the pictures at her first birthday party. Look how much she changed each month!
Here’s how you can make a French memo board for yourself.
Supplies needed to make a french memo board
- 18Ă—24 piece of plywood
- Fabric
- Quilt Batting
- Ribbon
- Staple Gun/Staples
- Hanging bracket
How to Make a French Memo Board
Start by cutting the batting to be about 3 inches taller and wider than your plywood. Place the plywood face-down on the batting. Pull the batting around the edges and staple to the back.
Then cut your fabric 3 inches taller and wider than your plywood. Put the covered plywood face down on the wrong side of your fabric. Staple all the way around, tucking the fabric around the corners. Be generous with the staples so that the fabric stays smooth and tight. This is what it will look like on the front and back at this point:
Next you lay the ribbon out in a criss-cross pattern, and leave about 2 inches on either end to be stapled around the back. I used 10 pieces of ribbon – 5 running in each direction – spaced 4.5 inches apart. Staple the ribbon on one side of the canvas, pull tight, and staple around the other side.
Finally, attach a picture hanging bracket to the back so you can hang on the wall.
Now I have a pretty inexpensive inspiration board to keep next to my sewing table that I use to hold pictures of the various projects I am working on or want to make.
It also makes a great place to hang hair bows.
