Valentine’s Day Marbled Heart Garland
Do you have a window or mantle in your house that could use some festive garland for Valentine’s Day? Gather the following supplies and let’s make some marbled heart garland!
What do you need for marbling?
- White construction paper
- Shaving cream
- Washable paint
- Wooden spoon
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Ribbon
- Spatula
How to Marble Paper
Spray a generous amount of shaving cream into a shallow pan. Old aluminum pie plates work great for this.
Pour 3-4 globs of washable paint in various colors on the top.
Let your child swirl it around with the end of a wooden spoon. You want the colors to be lightly blended, not mixed together so well that you can’t tell one color from another.
Not over mixing was the hardest part for Sophie. Stirring was her favorite part of this craft project and she could’ve easily kept mixing until everything in the pan turned brown! If your child does get carried away, just put some more shaving cream and paint on the top and start over.
Next, lay a piece of white construction paper on top of the shaving cream and paint mixture, gently press down, and lift off.
I’ve tried this with both construction paper and regular printing paper and found that construction paper retains the color better because it’s more porous. Use a spatula to scrape off the excess shaving cream. Now you’ll be able to see the swirly colors that have transferred onto the paper.
Once the paper is dry, cut hearts in several different sizes. Hole punch each heart at the top and string with a 1/2 inch ribbon. Hang and enjoy!

Does the shaving cream get hard too? If so this idea would be great for so many different ocassions. Thanks for this great idea.
You use a spatula to scrape off the excess shaving cream so that none remains on the paper.
