Under the Sea Handprint – Footprint Art
I can’t take credit for this adorable handprint – footprint art craft but it’s just too cute not to share! Audrey’s teacher Amber made this with Audrey to celebrate Under the Sea theme week at preschool. It uses handprints and footprints to create an under the sea themed painting featuring a sea turtle, fish and octopus.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own under the sea painting:
- White Paper
- Large colored construction paper
- Paint
- 3 foam brushes
- 4 googly eyes
- Glue stick
- Markers
Let’s start with the fish. Use a foam brush to paint your child’s foot and stamp it in the middle of the paper with the toes pointing to the side. It doesn’t matter which foot you use or which direction you choose to point the toes. Wipe foot clean. Then to make the sea turtle paint one hand and stamp it on the left side of the paper with the fingers pointing down. Clean hand and paint the palm and all fingers EXCEPT the little finger to make the octopus. Stamp hand on the right side of the paper with the fingers pointed down. Clean hand and paint the other hand with the same color, once again excluding the little finger. Stamp directly on top of the first hand. By not painting the little finger you end up with 8 legs on the octopus instead of 10!
After drying, add googly eyes and use markers to add details on the sea turtle’s shell, fins and lips on the fish, and a cute little smile on the octopus. Then mount onto the colored construction paper using a glue stick.
