Toilet Paper Role Turkey
Last November was just crazy for us with barely a free moment. Thanksgiving Day arrived and I realized that I’d never done a Thanksgiving Day craft with Sophie. So we made a turkey from a toilet paper roll and coffee filters on Thanksgiving Day. It was too late to share on the blog last year so I’m sharing it with you this year. Better late than never! Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Thanksgiving turkey!
Thanksgiving Turkey Craft Supplies
- Toilet paper role
- Brown paint
- Paintbrush
- 2 coffee filters
- Markers
- Spray bottle with water
- Scissors
- Glue
- 2 Googly eyes
- Craft foam or construction paper
How to Make a Turkey out of a Toilet Paper Role
Paint the toilet paper role with brown paint. After it dries, cut a slit 3/4 of the way down either side. Cut the front section into a head shape, leaving a 1″ slit to insert the coffee filters (aka tail feathers).
Color the coffee filters with the washable markers making sure to cover the entire filter. The best part of this craft is spraying the filters with the spray bottle. Sophie LOVED this and got so carried away with her spraying that she nearly washed all the color off one of the filters! Luckily we made 4 and you only need 2 for the feathers. The trick is to lightly midst the filters so the colors run together. Then hang to dry.
Cut out the turkey’s feet, beak and wattle from craft foam or construction paper and glue in place, along with two googly eyes. When the coffee filters dry, fold each coffee filter almost in half with one side slightly higher than the other. Stack the two filters on top of each other and insert into the slits on the toilet paper role.
Then you have yourself a cute Tom Turkey!
