Rainbow Rice
Rainbow rice can keep a toddler busy for hours! It makes a great base for sensory play. Kids love to scoop it, pour it and fill containers with it.
Rainbow rice is very easy to make. Just pour 1 cup of white rice into a Ziploc bag. Then add a teaspoon of white vinegar + a few drops of food coloring. Any brand of food coloring will do, but Wilton gel food coloring will give you really vibrant colors.
Make sure the bag is sealed tightly. Then shake and scrunch it until the rice is blended with the color. Even little kids can help with this step! Repeat with other colors, using a separate bag for each. Then spread the rice out in a thin layer on a piece of parchment paper and leave it to dry. About an hour should be plenty of time. The rice can be stored indefinitely in an air tight container.
