Handprint Snowman Ornament
I love handmade ornaments….especially those with sentimental value. This one features a family of snowmen made with your child’s handprint!
Here’s what you’ll need to make one for your tree:
Ornament Making Supplies
- Ball Ornaments
- White Craft Paint and other colors of your choice for hats, scarves, etc.
- Paint brush
- Clear Acrylic Gloss Spray (optional)
How to Make a Handprint Snowman Ornament
I found an 8 pack of small plastic ornaments at Dollar Tree which were the perfect size for Sophie’s small hands. I think a plastic ornament is the best choice for the little ones. I was afraid to use a glass one just in case she squeezed it too tight!
Start by painting your child’s hand with white paint. Place the ornament in their palm and have them gently close their fingers around the ornament. Hold the top of the ornament and gently lift the ornament from their hand. Hang to dry. After the handprint has dried, paint faces on your snowmen and dress them as you wish. We added hats, scarves and buttons. Don’t forget to write your child’s name and date on the bottom. I also recommend spraying the finished version with clear acrylic gloss spray in order to give it a protective coating which will help prevent scratches.
There is a great poem to go along with these ornaments:
These aren’t just five snowmen
As anyone can see.
I made them with my hand
Which is a part of me.
Now each year when you trim the tree
You’ll look back and recall
Christmas of 2013
When my hand was just this small!
Make a few extra to share with grandparents this Christmas!
