Fall Handprint Tree

Make a fall handprint tree out of your child's hand and fingerprints!

We are just starting to feel fall temperatures here in South Carolina. I know other blogs were promoting fall projects as soon as it turned September but somehow it was hard for me to get in the mood for fall crafts when it was still over 90 degrees outside. Now it’s finally cooling off just a bit!

I wish I could say we have some pretty fall color around here, but for the most part our trees are still green. So I thought we’d make our own fall color with a little art project!

I got the idea for this project from my daughter Sophie’s preschool. One of Sophie’s former teachers made a fall handprint tree with her with she was about a year old. I snapped this picture of Sophie’s fall handprint tree last year against some colorful fall leaves.

This year I made two versions of a handprint tree with my one year old daughter Audrey. All you need to make one is white paper, washable paint in brown, red, orange and yellow, foam brushes and a marker or crayon to trace with.

On the first one, I traced Audrey’s hand and arm to make the tree. Then painted her fingers red, helped her stamp her finger prints to make the leaves, wiped off the red paint, and repeated the process with the other plant colors. She absolutely loved doing this, and was upset when it was done! So we made another!

For the other tree, I painted her hand and arm with brown paint and and stamped it on the paper to create the trunk and branches. Repeat the same process as above to make the leaves.
