Crocheted Santa Hat
Last year when we took Sophie to see Santa there were a lot of kids wearing Santa hats. We found out they were selling them in the gift shop so my dad tried to go buy one but they had sold out. I decided at that time I would make a hat for Sophie to wear this year but of course forgot all about it until a few days ago.
I found a cute crocheted Santa hat pattern but it’s all done in single crochet which takes awhile to do since the stitch is so small….and I had to make two because Audrey also needed one! Well, make that three. Cooper the cat needed one too! Needless to say I’ve been up late crocheting the past couple nights. But they turned out so cute!
I found the perfect yarn for the trim and pom pom – Bernat Tizzy in Marshmallow White. This yarn’s a good bit thicker than the Caron Simply Soft in Red that I used for the body of the hat. I started attaching the trim by crocheting in every stitch along the bottom of the red but found that it stretched the hat out way too much. I had to rip it out and redo it by only crocheting in every other stitch. It still looks nice and full and the yarn is so fluffy that you can’t tell a single stitch is skipped.

The pattern runs quite small. I made a child size hat for Audrey, who is only 6 months old with a 16.75 inch head, and an adult size hat for Sophie who is 3 1/2 with a 19 inch head. Even with going up to larger sizes, both hats are very snug and likely won’t fit them next year.
The pattern doesn’t specify how many rows to complete. I did 8 additional rows for Sophie & Audrey’s hats.
I desperately tried to her some pictures of the girls under the tree but they just were not in the mood for a photo session!
And the harder I tried the worse it got!
I just couldn’t get both of them to be happy at the same time… Would you look at that pout???
At least I managed to get one really sweet shot!
I could resist making a Santa hat for our cat Cooper. It made a cute prop for a photo op under the tree! At least he was cooperative with having his picture taken.
This is so cute I can barely stand it!
A couple days later Audrey smiled for the camera. I can’t say I blame her for being happier in her comfy pj’s than in her pretty Christmas dress.
Look at those 2 adorable teeth!
